What’s New from SelectStar: RDS Auto Discovery, Job Status Reporting & Azure Support

This month for SelectStar, we focused on adding new functionality as well as extending the databases that we cover to include Microsoft Azure and Azure SQL. Check out our summary of what’s new in April below.

RDS Auto Discovery

Using RDS Auto Discovery in SelectStar

You can’t manage what you don’t know. With the new RDS Auto Discovery feature from SelectStar, enable the solution to auto discover any RDS instance that you want monitored. In just one click, you can reveal database instances and gain insight into workloads on your RDS environment that you otherwise may not have had visibility into.

MS SQL 2008 R2 Support

We extended our functionality to include support for Microsoft SQL 2008 R2. In addition to this version, you can also use SelectStar to monitor one of the following versions of Microsoft SQL Server:

  • MS SQL 2012
  • MS SQL 2014
  • MS SQL 2016

Job Status Reporting

In addition to extending support for Microsoft SQL, we’ve added key functionality for job status reporting for your SQL databases. With job status reporting, you can gain key visibility into the status of your jobs in a multi-server environment.

Job status reporting integrates with our intelligent alerts so that you can establish key thresholds to receive an advanced indication of whether your job status may be faltering.

Centralized Collector Improvements

To make it even easier to implement SelectStar, we made significant improvements to the centralized collector, including how it alerts you to any issues as it’s collecting your database information.

The improvements were extended to both of SelectStar’s centralized collectors: Amazon EC2 and on-premises.

New: Microsoft Azure and Azure SQL

This month, we extended SelectStar to support Microsoft Azure and Azure SQL databases. Within our SelectStar for Azure capabilities, we extend monitoring so you gain metric-based and deep-dive insight into your database workloads that are native to Azure. As a result, you can dig deeper into query-level metrics within your Azure SQL databases.
